6 Easy Ways to Keep Your Counters Looking Great

      Cleaning Counter

You have wanted those beautiful countertops for quite a while, and now you have them! With the proper care, your natural stone counters can last a lifetime. Just follow these simple steps.

      1. Start by creating good habits. Even though your natural stone counters are strong and durable, create good care habits to reduce needless wearing. Avoid dragging or pushing items that could scratch your counters. Use pads under hot dishes to avoid potential heat damage or even the rare "thermal shock" cracking. Be prompt to wipe up any spilled food or liquid, especially items with dark pigment that could stain.

      2. When cleaning, simple is best. A soft cloth with soapy water is the easiest way to wash your counters. Avoid cleaning solutions that contain amonia, bleach, alcohol, lemon and vinegar. These liquids can eventually diplenish your countertop's shine and break down its protective sealer.

      3. Use coasters under cups and bottles. In general, the lighter the stone, the more suceptable it is to staining. Acidic substances like wine, coffee, tomato sauce, alcohol, oil, fruit juices, and sodas can potentially leave marks if not wiped up in a timely manner.

      4. Prepare food on a cutting board. Do not use a knife directly on your stone counters.

      5. No climbing! Avoid sitting or standing on your stone countertops. Unlike laminate, natural stone counters typically do not have plywood or mesh backing. So a large amount of weight could crack it.

      6. Have your stone counters professionally sealed. This is perhaps the most important step of all! The quality sealer used by Sellers can last for up to a decade, however we recommend having it resealed every 4-5 years. A quality sealer is designed to block stain, protect the surface, repell water spotting, and prevent bacteria growth. This is the best thing you can do for your counters. Sellers can refinish older countertops too, even if we weren't the ones to install it.

Melt in Your Mouth Avocado Fries

      Recipe - Avocado Fries

It almost doesn't seem possible that a perfectly ripe avocado could ever be improved upon, but these avocado fries prove it can be done.

      INGREDIENTS

      Avocado Fries
      1 avocado, in 1/4-inch slices
      1/2 c. milk
      1/2 c. flour
      1 egg, beaten
      Canola oil, for frying

      Lime Sriracha Mayonnaise
      1/2 cup mayonnaise
      Juice of 1/2 lime
      Sriracha, or spicy chili sauce

      DIRECTIONS

      Avocado Fries

      1. Fill a skillet with oil until it is about 1/4- to 1/2-inch full. Heat on high until oil sputters when a drop of water is dropped in.

      2. Place the milk, flour and egg in three separate shallow dishes. Beat about 1 tbs. of water into the egg mixture. Dunk a slice of avocado in milk, then flour, then eggs, then back in flour. Place each slice on a plate until you’ve dunked the whole batch in batter.

      3. Slowly add the slices to the oil. You don’t want to overcrowd the pan, so stop before they all start touching each other. After about a minute, you’ll see the edges turning brown. This means it's time to flip them over. Allow them to cook for another minute, then remove them from the skillet and place on a plate lined with paper towels.

      Lime Sriracha Mayonnaise

To make the mayonnaise, mix together the mayo, lime juice and Sriracha. Add the Sriracha to taste, depending on how spicy you want it. Serve with your avocado fries and enjoy!
